Summer living

We moved into my parents house in Midway, UT til Brian got his job. We took a couple road trips up to Idaho to see Brian's family. And then to Arizona to see my little sister and her new baby Zoe, who I just LOVE!

Our summer was pleasant and we enjoyed the time we had to see family. We went swimming, went on Rhino rides, had bbq's and smores with friends, played outside on the swings and slide, we really just enjoyed our time together until Brian started his new job.

Aloha Hawaii

We did it. We made the big move from Hawaii in June 2011. It was a sad day, not sure if we would ever return to our home for the past 2 1/2 years. No more beach, runs, walks, countless hours spent outside, friends right outside our door... it was hard to leave such a wonderful and beautiful place. The last few weeks we tried to soaked up as much sun as we could. We loved our lives in our tiny apartment, our tiny little town and the simplicity of life. It was a good life. We will miss you Hawaii.

Easter 2011

This year for Easter we took Ruby to the HUGE Easter Egg Hunt at Gunstock Ranch. It was insane how many people and eggs there are. seriously insane. We skipped the Easter Egg hunt and headed straight for the petting zoo. Ruby loves, no, LOVES animals. She was in heaven in that dirty cage with the animals, luckily for me, Brian doesn't mind getting dirty along with Ruby. So I just stood to the side and took pictures as they went around petting all the animals. After that Brian was in charge of our apartment complex's Easter Egg hunt so we went home to set up for that. Ruby took part of the Easter Egg hunt in her age group and at first she didn't know what to think but once I showed her what was inside, she had more incentive to find more! On Easter morning we woke up and ate eggs and gave her the Easter basket from her Yaya. Ears included! Then we put her in her new Easter Dress and headed off to church.

Post Graduation and Milly's visit

Milly was able to stay with us for a week after graduation. She made us lots of delicious food and we ate out a lot too. I was trying really hard to pay attention to how she cooked things, but still need more lessons! One day Milly, Ruby and I took a trip to town and went shopping. I think we were gone a total of 8 hours! Talk about shopping til you drop! Ruby did awesome the whole time. Milly bought Ruby the cutest Easter dress and we even bought matching jeans! We ate at Nordstrom's Cafe, one of my favorite places to eat, and See's candy for dessert! We had a blast!
We went on runs every morning where we picked guavas from the trees. so yummy! We went to the beach and swam and soaked up all the sun we could while Brian was out of school. We also went on a hike. Thanks to Lindsay Raynor who watched Ruby so we could go. We went up to Laie Falls. It was the perfect day for a hike. We woke up early and got to the falls and swam around with not another soul in sight.
On our way to take Milly to the airport we stopped to walk up to the lighthouse. While walking we stopped to observe the whales that were playing right next to the cliff. They were so loud! I loved just sitting there and listening to them!
We sure were sad to see her go but we had fun while she was there. :)

I know, I know, this post is a little late and I have been slaking at keeping up with this here ol' blog. Hopefully these next couple days, maybe weeks, I will find the strength to sit here and completely update you all on our lives! I am just lazy when it comes down to it, but here goes nothing...
Brian GRADUATED!! WHOOO HOOO! (please share this same enthusiasm with us, we are thrilled this day has finally come, and passed) So next time you see/talk with Brian give a pat on the head and congratulate him on his 7 year accomplishment! (teasing about the 7 year part, dont mention that one to him ;) ) No but in all seriousness, I am so proud of him and was excited for him on his BIG day. It was fun to watch him take his diploma and see him grinning cheek to cheek. The ceremony from what I remember was wonderful.
After the Ceremony we dressed Brian with the traditional leis, the more you have the more you are loved. He requested that we dont go over board with them, that's why you can still see his face. Had he not said anything, you know I would have covered him head to toe and maybe even more.
For dinner Brian just wanted to have a nice and relaxing evening. We went to the Foodland on the north shore and bought some Sushi and chips and drinks and went across the street to Sharks Cove and enjoyed our food with the breathtaking view!
Oh did I forgot to mention, Milly was able to come out for graduation and stayed and played for the week Brian had off. It was great having her there to share the special moment with her son.

One day we decided it would be fun to go whale watching. We got a great deal, got the Raynors to come along with us, and headed into town for a good ol' time! Well, one thing we didnt take note in when booking our tickets, was the weather. It had been really, I mean REALLY WINDY, for the past week or so and for some reason I thought it wouldn't be that big of a factor in our fun whale watching adventure. WRONG!!! When we pulled up to the dock where we would be taking off we quickly ran over to the store and bought some dramamine, maybe a little late on that but it worked! BUT we didn't give any to the babies, for some reason we thought they could handle it??? SOOO they ended up getting sea sick and threw up on their daddies; while their mommies were having the time of their lives in the front of the boat, losing their stomachs from going over the ginormous waves!

We saw some whales, had our fun, and glad we did it, (but will most likely never pay to do it again.)

Ruby 's 1st

I can't believe our little baby is 1! Where did the time go... She has brought so much joy and love into our home and we our extremely grateful for her. Ruby is the sweetest and happiest baby in the world. She is absolutely perfect, I'm not kidding, we often joke that she has set a really high bar for her siblings.

At her 12 month appt. she weighed in at 23.9oz and 29 inches. She can stand by herself but once she realizes what she is doing she drops to the ground. She LOVES being outside and LOVES the beach. She still loves bath time or playing with any water for that matter. She loves brushing her teeth and getting into drawers and pulling everything out. She loves going to the park and climbing up the slide and swinging. She says momma, dadda and uh oh. She always wakes up happy and when you go in and get her she gets so excited and jumps up and down and shakes her crib. She loves playing with other kids and follows them all around. She can click her tongue and smack her lips. She loves to put my hand over her mouth and make her voice shake. She also will grab my hands to play patty cake but instead of me clapping her hands she has to clap mine. She is a funny little girl and I love her so much! Happy 1st Birthday Ruby!

When we finally got around to celebrating her bday we decided to just keep it really simple. My friend Lindsay and I made homemade strawberry cupcakes with strawberry frosting(recipe curtesy of Sprinkles cupcakes). The frosting my friends was to die for, it tasted just like a strawberry milkshake. We celebrated with a few friends with hotdogs and cupcakes and it was fabulous.

Help! Its time for Ruby to sit in a forward facing car seat and I have no idea which one to get! Why are there sooo many options, I am an incredibly indecisive person and making purchases like this are very hard for me. I want one that will last through all of our kids or at least most of them...so quality is very important. Please give me some advice...

I guess when people realize that if they want to come to Hawaii and hang out with some of the coolest people they better come before they move away, and that they have. Well at least the peeps that matter have! jk all of you fellow readers/family/friends/ are all wonderful and I'm sure that if you could you would.
This semester we have been keeping ourselves busy, Brian is in school and working, what seems to be all the time, and Rubs and I entertain ourselves outside either at the beach or the park. We are loving the warm weather and I am making sure we soak up as much sun as possible before we move off this rock. Along with our crazy schedules we have had some fun entertaining family and friends this semester.
Melissa, Pike's sister, with her 2 cute kids was able to come out and enjoy the Hawaii life for awhile, which she loved so much she was ready to move out here! (between the warm weather and the "guy" she met out here. haha) While she was here we went to the beach, ate lots, went to the PCC and Sea Life Park, and Melissa went skydiving! Ruby just loved having a playmate and followed her buddy Brandt all over the place. We really enjoyed their company and had lots of laughs while they were here.
Then, just this past week, our good friends Daniel and Maloree came out with their handsome little boy Ethan. Ruby was thrilled to have a cute little boy to chase around, she followed him everywhere, and when he was no where to be found she would go look for him. He on the other hand could care less about her (one day Ethan you are going to regret that move! jk) While they were here we hung out at the beach of course and Pike taught Daniel to surf. Oh and they were lucky enough to enjoy the experience of a tsunami warning! or not so lucky! It was a crazy and scary night but we are all happy we were blessed and all well looked after that night/morning. My heart goes out to Japan... keep them in your prayers! It was so fun having Dan and Mal here and made us excited to move back to the mainland and hang out some more.

Pike's cousin Taunya along with her husband and 3 adorable girls came to Hawaii for a little vacation. They stayed in the Kapolei condos and were kind enough to let us come hang out a few times and play in the fun pools. Ruby absolutely loved it!

At the beginning of January my sister and her family came out to visit us for a week. I loved having them here especially my cute nephew D! Ruby was in heaven having a playmate around all day and not to mention all the attention she was getting from her auntie. We ate out lots and played hard. It was a great start to 2011.

Ruby's First Christmas

Christmas Eve:
-went on a nice walk
-went to the beach and played in the water
-played games with friends
-ate freshly baked white chocolate chip cookies (thanks Chels)
-attempted to watch Its A Wonderful Life and Christmas Vacation.

Christmas Day:
Pike took Ruby when she woke up so I could sleep in a little longer. :) Once I woke up I quickly got Pike's "surprise" stocking ready. (he went with me to buy all the candy so it wasnt much of a surprise). We then introduced Ruby to her presents and showed her how to rip the wrapping paper off. She attempted at it until she pulled one big piece off and was happily entertained with her new piece of paper. Again, I showed her how to keep pulling it off and she tried until she got herself another piece and began playing away with it. We laughed because thats exactly what we expected her to do. I then sat her on my lap and began to help her unwrap the rest of her presents. She loved her doll that nana and papa sent her, the eyes open and close and it cries and says momma! She also loved the case her new pacifiers came in, she gagged when we put the pacifier in her mouth but wouldnt let go off the case. Go figure. After Ruby was done opening her gifts Pike and I exchanged ours.
That afternoon we went to the beach for a while and just relaxed. When we got home we talked with our families and watched movies and played games with friends. It was a great Christmas. Simple and relaxing just the way we like it.

Santa Clause is coming to town...

We took Ruby to our ward Christmas party to see Santa a week ago. I knew the chances of her liking sitting on his lap were slim but I thought, she loves pulling hair, so maybe she might like that big white beard. Wishful thinking. Ruby was perfectly happy throughout the entire party up until the moment I sat her on Santa's lap. She lost it! I have only seen her cry like that while getting shots, sooo maybe sitting on Santa's lap isnt her thing.

This year we were lucky enough to spend Thanksgiving with our good friends Jen and Greg, and Jen's family, and Matty, Linds and Parker. The food was DeLiCiOuS and the company was FaNtAsTiC!
My favorite part was playing games after we ate... I havent laughed that hard in awhile. (i wish we had some of it on camera!)

I have been trying to get our blog to go private but it's not working?!?! help!

In the mean time, we are having a blast and loving the life we have here in Hawaii! Before we know it we will be leaving this beautiful island and going to who knows where...scary stuff. but yet very exciting.

This past week has been absolutely wonderful. We went to the beach almost everyday and the best part was it wasnt very windy so we werent chasing after our umbrella. The water was calm, the air was warm and had a nice cool breeze every so often. Ruby LOVES the beach and water! I cant keep her off the sand and once I take her in the water to rinse of our bodies I cant get her out of the water. She laughs and splashes and kicks those chubby legs so hard that I feel bad taking her out. (ok so its me who cant get her out of the water.) She has always had a love for water and I am so glad that she loves the beach as much as I do, and Pike too!

Ruby is now 8 months and is the happiest most smiley baby EVER! I promise. She is calm and very determined. She is doing the army crawl and scoots herself around the house following me wherever I go. She loves standing and will try to climb up on everything. Her new trick is standing up in her crib. She stands there and laughs until we go in and see what she is doing. She is a little performer too. If she starts doing something that she feels is praise worthy she will cackle(that's what her fake laugh sounds like) and stare at you until you acknowledge her or what she is doing. She still loves Baby Einstein so I get a little break and chance to clean or get myself ready. She will eat and eat if you let her. She loves everything!!! She has 2 teeth and I dont think i will care if she gets anymore, seriously. She wasnt bad, she just wasnt herself and it made me sad for her.
Ruby also knows how to unlock her daddy's iphone and will do it whenever she gets a hold of it, which is rare. but impressive. We laugh because she gets this super concentrated face on and almost starts to shake. She is really articulate with her hands and the way she examines things is almost like she is a blind person reading braille. She LOVES books. She claps either her own hands or grab yours and clap them. She gets a kick out of it. She also will give you kisses and when she does she grabs your face and gives you a nice slobbery wet kiss.

I just cant get enough of her!

Fun times

My parents came. For 10 days. Went WAYYYY too fast. Got nice and tan. Went on LONG walks, so long Ruby took naps :). Gained some LBS, but all worth it. Relaxed on the beach. Read some books. Had a blast.

I loved having my mom and dad here and I hated when they had to leave. I have the BEST parents in the world! They spoiled us and especially Ruby (they fed her ice cream just about every day!)

Ruby loved having her Papa and Nana here, every morning when she woke up she would keep looking around the corner waiting for them to come out of their room. The saddest day was when no one came out to give her all the attention she wanted. I am pretty sure she misses them, they took her on walks and to the beach, which are her favorite things to do. And Papa gave her lots of shoulder rides and let her use his hair as reins. She was in heaven!
I am so glad they were able to come and play with Ruby and spend some time with her, she is at such a fun stage in life right now. I cant wait til we live closer...one day! I miss you mom and dad! Thanks for coming out for a fun visit! Love you xoxo

I was going through all of Ruby's clothes to put away the one's that no longer fit (tear) and found this blue number. Its surprisingly to big on top!?! Weird. I couldn't resist taking pictures...she is just too dang cute!!!

Yaya Came to Visit!!

We were lucky enough to have Milly come out to Hawaii and spend almost 10 days with us! It was so fun seeing her and having her here. It was her first time meeting Ruby too! Ruby loved having her Yaya here to entertain her with her craziness! :) While Milly was here we played at the beach, ate at Ted,s, pineapple ice cream at Dole plantation, went to the Buddhist temple, Botanical gardens, flea market, Polynesian Culture Center, Pali look out, and she made us some DELICIOUS Puerto Rican food!!! We kept asking her to just stay and live here with us, I mean who wouldnt want her, she cooks, feeds your baby so you can shower, and is just fun to be around!

6 monts old!

My baby girl is 6 months old already! I cant believe how fast time has gone... seriously, before we know it we will be moving off of this beautiful island and begin life somewhere else. Crazy. Ruby is getting so big and so funny these days. She is lil miss independent and is EXTREMELY busy! This lil girl is everywhere: looking around fast and grabbing everything. I cant imagine what she is going to be like once she can crawl or WALK! AHHH She laughs all the time and is the most smily and happy baby around :) Her laugh right now kind of sounds like she is choking which makes us laugh harder and then makes her laugh even more!
Right now her loves are rice cereal, when she eats she moans in enjoyment,really funny! She LOVES hats and tags. Why do we even try with the toys when all she wants his her daddy's hat. Whenever Brian is wearing a hat and he goes near Ruby she gets really excited so he picks her up and then all she does is grab at his hat. When she gets fussy we show her a hat and let her play with it and she calms down instantly.
Funny story: Today we took Ruby to the dr. for her check up as he was checking her heart rate he looked up at us and said, your daughter has big boobies! hahahaha seriously?!? The past few weeks Ruby has been putting on weight and I have noticed that she has little boobies, in fact I have said jokingly that we need to get her a training bra! So yes, dr, I know they are big, but THAT big that you couldnt help yourself but to say it out loud!?! Too funny.

When one lives in Hawaii one goes to the beach in Hawaii...ALOT!
(in case you havent figure it out yet, we live in Hawaii and we go to the beach. Its cheap and its fun.)

Ruby is getting so big and much easier to take to the beach these days. This day is from about a month ago but I have been a slacker and am trying to catch up on EVERYTHING!

Brian's Birthday was just a lazy day...I kept asking him want he wanted to do and he told me nothing, so that's just it we did nothing! NOT! No way is there going to be a birthday in my home and not do ANYTHING! So naturally I made a cake for my husband and he asked to have hamburgers for dinner. It was also our friend Matty's birthday so we did a joint bbq with them. It was a fun and relaxing day.

These two are AWESOME. They make me happy. I look forward to coming home to them from my looooong 2 hr work day every morning (yes, its tough to live in Hawaii and have a 2 hour workday). I love them. Enjoy these pictures of them.

Ruby sticks her tongue out a lot now. Wonder where she learned it?

Ruby loves her mommy. When I hold Ruby and she sees Lindsey, she smiles big and shakes with excitement. They are best friends. Lindsey knows how to calm Ruby when she is having a tough day sleeping. She plops her into these positions and Ruby calms down and starts to sing (if you want to call it singing). Within a bit, Ruby is sleeping. Its that motherly ability. Lindsey has it. And she isn't just being mom as of late. She is working some too so that we can have some monies saved up when we have to leave this beautiful rock. She does it all. I think I am going to get her a Wonder Woman outfit for Halloween. Cause she is wonderful and cause I have a crush on Wonder Woman.

I feel super blessed to have 2 awesome women in my life. LUCKY ME !!

Ruby Laughs and Sings

To start, this is Pike writing this post.

The other day, Lindsey was in Hauula doing some work and I was at home with Ruby. A normal Ruby and Dad time consists of watching some surfing and then going outside and sitting in the shade because it is a lot cooler outside in the late afternoon than inside our apartment. The reason is the way our apartment faces it doesn't really catch the wind to well. But if you step out the door, BOOOM, you get hit with a crazy gust of breeze that feels delightful. So I go sit outside with her. Well, I was outside and she started to get hungry, so I brought her in and stuck her on the counter in her Bumbo and was getting a bottle ready for her. I was shaking the bottle and Ruby started to LAUGH. It was hilarious. So I ran and grabbed the camera and luckily she did it again.

Here it is.

Later that night Lindsey and I laid her in her swing to fall asleep and she started to SING. Lindsey sometimes sings to her at night when putting her to bed, so we figure when Lindsey isn't singing Ruby takes it upon herself to sing herself to sleep. Bare with her, she is just a baby. She isn't to great at hitting the right chords. But expect her to be on American Idol someday! If anything, she will be the girl they put on just for the audition show so everyone gets a laugh

Ruby got her ears pierced!!!

I did it... I love it...so happy it's done and over with.

I was at the Post Office one afternoon, which is near a place that pierces ears, so I called Brian, he said do it and I said ok I am going to walk over there and thats just what I did. I didn't even think twice. I was fine and Ruby was so happy. I sat in the chair and watched her smiling and talking to herself and the women in the mirror. Then it hit me WHAT ARE YOU DOING! This poor little girl is so happy and oblivious to what is going to happen to her. HOW COULD YOU!?! Then we turned her away from the mirror to stare into a face of a stranger who held her face while I held her arms. Then two women came with their guns in hand and stood by her side and counted 1 2 3 BANG! WAIT A SECOND BAHHHHAHAHAH (crying) OH SHOOT MY GUN DIDNT GO OFF!
Me: WHAT~ohhh noo then another quick click and an even louder BAHAHAHAA! WHAT DID I JUST DO?! I grabbed by baby and held her so close to me and kissed her face repeatedly until she calmed down... really it didnt last very long, but to me it seemed like forever. Then we walked around a store and she was happy and when she saw herself in the mirror she knew it was all worth it! She loves them, I love them, and her dad loves love them.

Last weekend we took Ruby to the beach. It was a perfect day, a light breeze to keep us cool and clear calm water! We put Ruby in the water and she hated it. We are going to keep working with her on the whole loving to be in water thing.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!

As I sit here and write with Ruby by my side I cant help but feel complete joy. Joy for those little special moments that we have together. Such moments like the one I just had with her... I looked down at her and she looked back and gave me this HUGE smile and starting talking to me as if we were in a deep conversation. Or joy when I walk in the room and her seeing me the first time this morning and getting really excited and kicking her legs a mile a minute! I love her and I love being a MOM! Ruby is growing so fast and just yesterday I went through her clothes and pulled out her newborn ones(that up until last week still fit her) and had to retire them. Maybe a little tear of sadness ran down my face but also a tear of joy. As much as I was ready for her to grow into new clothes my heart ached for that little newborn... the one that loved to just cuddle with me at all times. Ruby has become more independent, which I am very grateful for, but she is growing too fast! With her new independence, I finally have time to do more around the house and get more work done. It brings me much joy knowing that I can leave her with a few toys and Baby Einstein and go do the dishes or clean out the cupboards and fridge (which sadly have been neglected for months). Also with her new independence she doesnt want to cuddle as often. She wants to be able to see everything that is going on. When she's tired she sometimes wants to be held, but mostly wants to lay on her own! What happened to the little baby who would only sleep when she was being held? Dont get me wrong, I am glad that she is sleeping on her own, but how and when did that happen? Now when she is tired and getting ready to fall asleep she talks and groans to herself while holding her binkie in her mouth and blanket on her face. Brian and I absolutely love it and we get a kick out of it every time! Ruby is a really happy baby and will more than likely smile at anyone and everything. Her smile is very contagious and people get a kick out of her. Like the people she flirts with who are sitting behind us at church or standing behind us in line at the store. She really is a little flirt, when you smile and talk to her she gives you a smile and then starts to hide herself a little then grins and grins afterwards. SO CUTE! :)
Yesterday while Brian was holding her she was talking to him and he would talk back in the same jibberish and she would get a kick out of it and reply back with something. This went on for quite some time and I just sat there and thought to myself what a great life I have. I have an amazing husband who has become a wonderful father. He helps me out and is just awesome. I wont get into anything or details but there has been alot of changes in our lives this year and some were good and some bad. He has had his struggles and when he struggles I struggle. I havent really felt like talking to anyone about most of this because it is personal, but once I talked to him about it all, I felt better, he felt better and we are stronger than ever. I have married a man who cares very much about his family and will do anything to assure that they are happy. I love that about him. In his own personal struggles I have seen him grow into a man of willingness... willing to help and forgive. I have watched him become more Christ like in his ability to forgive and reach out his hand to help bring another up. He has a very strong and solid testimony of the church and I look up to him for it. He is stronger than I am and I am proud of him and envious of his ability to turn a bad situation into something better.
More about Ruby...
Before she was born I had all these ambitions. like keeping up this blog as a journal for her (we all know that hasn't been so), I wanted to take a picture of her everyday in the same spot so we could see how she is growing day by day, pierce her ears, and always put a bow in her hair! Well sadly I havent done any of those things. Pictures I have... lots! I guess I could start a picture a day from here on out, and maybe I will. The blog... well I can only try. Bows! Ha...we have many but the always end up around her eyes or we dont really go anywhere so whats the point? I do put one on if we go out but thats about it. So I guess I sort of do that one. Now piercing her ears?!?! I cant bring myself to do it... how could I intentionally inflict pain on my little baby? I want her to have them so badly but I just cant muster up the courage to do it. I told Brian he needs to take her for me. He said he would, so there is a chance of that actually happening! Anyways, I want to write down little things she does or has done for my memory and not dwell on the things that I havent done. I try and that has to be good enough. I cant look at everyone else's blogs who are doing much more than me with their lives and children and sit and feel bad for not doing or trying to do the same things. I can only be me. I am happy I have a happy and healthy baby and a great husband. Our life will go on as such if we only try to do what is right. That is what we do, we try to become better each day and love each other.
Sorry, got off the subject... Ruby. Ruby loves to look at herself in the mirror or in pictures and holds great conversations and exchanges millions of smile with herself. On our fridge we have lots of pictures of family and friends and I have her look at them daily and she loves it! She really loves TV. When the TV is on it is hard to get her attention, but once you pull her away she is all ears and wants to be soaked up in conversation with you. She kicks and runs like crazy...seriously, I get tired watching her go and go. When she does this she sucks in her bottom lip? Weird but funny. Up until this last week she loved baths... I mean LOVED them, only cried when I took her out. I loved giving her bath time and watching her kick and splash water all over. I dont know what happened but now she doesnt enjoy the water. Breaks my heart giving her baths and her laying there screaming and red all over. I want my water loving baby to come back! She loves music and loves me singing to her. She gets excited when I dance and I think tries to mimic my sporadic moves. Her talking is adorable and I cant get enough of it along with her smiles. Every once in awhile she tries to get a laugh out and it makes me laugh which makes her try even more. She doesnt really like the idea of being on her belly and only last for a short time doing her belly time. She loves books and when I read to her. She finally loves her swing and will sleep in it throughout the day. She loves being outside. When she is fussy we will just step outside and she calms right down. She loves going on walks and you can tell she is trying to take it all it. Her heads turns every direction as she is trying to see the world around her. She loves to grab and hold onto things and she is very strong. She loves to suck on her blanket and hands. She hold her blanket in between her binkie and hand in order to keep her binkie in her mouth. She is kind of a busy body already... she tends to get bored easy and just needs a little change and then she is fine for a bit. She loves when daddy comes through the door she starts cooing and smiling for him instantly. I love watching them together. I am excited to watch her learn and grow more but at the same time I want time to somehow go a little slower.

I truly have a wonderful life. It is no where near perfect and at times gets tough, but I know that with the gospel and Heavenly Father at our focal point,we, my family, can get through anything together.

Vegas Vacation & Picture overload

Ruby and I were able to spend 3 glorious weeks in Vegas, even though we sure missed hubby/daddy, we had a blast! It was so good to be back home and just hang out with family and friends. Its always hard to leave but I am glad to be back home with Brian.

Ruby's so excited! First time flying

Ruby did amazing on both flights! The flight into Vegas started off CrAzY! I mean really stressful, I tried to be as calm as possible but inside I was getting anxious. We arrived at the airport a little later then planned but that wasnt the stressful part. Once we arrived Brian came inside to help me carry all the luggage to the check in counter. Once we got there I felt like they sent us all over the place getting the proper checks and what not. By the time we were done doing all the crazy things they needed us to do before checking our baggage they told me that I couldnt take my stroller! WHAT!?! Luckily the lady felt sorry for me so went and got me a cart for free! SO once I went through security we got to the gate and they had already started boarding the plane. Problem was that when I walked up with Ruby, who by this time was crying because it was past time to eat, no one let me cut in ahead of them. Instead they just stared and frowned at me and my crying baby! Once I made it up to the gate the fight attendant quickly and happily helped me to me seat. All along the way I was getting looks of disgust for bringing a screaming baby on board. Once I began feeding Ruby the lady who was to sit next to me walked up and saw me with a baby and looked to the flight attendant and said "I cant sit here!" The flight attendant and I just stared at her and couldnt believe that she had the nerve to say something like that. Then she proceeded to say I dont want to sit there so I need a new seat and I dont mind first class! hahaha WOW! I couldnt believe this lady! Anywho, it worked out for the better for me because I had two whole seats to myself and it just made my life that much easier! So thanks to whoever you are! Like I said before Ruby did AMAZING on the flight. Nothing more then little coos. Everyone around me who were so nervous to have a baby sitting by them were shocked because they didnt hear her once! Ruby is such a great little baby!

Once we arrived in vegas it was nothing but fun! My mom, dad and little brother Doug all came to pick us up. On the way home we got Yogurtland and it was the perfect beginning to a perfect vacation.

I dont want to bore you with all the little details of our trip back home but a few of the highlights consisted of:
-Carly's Wedding (seeing lots of friends and dancing with Courtney)
-Breakfast with some of the girls!
-Mom's Bday ( Everyone but Danny and Liz were there) Tara made some delish food and dessert!
-Doug going through the temple! SO COOL! All the siblings and the spouses were there...well minus Brian, but it was a very neat experience
-Grandpa's 75th Bday! So fun seeing all the family
-Did I mention having all of my bros and sisters there! It was a blast having everyone together!
-Mother's day! Boys got up early and made us breakfast and cleaned up!!
-just relaxing and playing games/watching 24 with family
-lots of great food- mom's a really good cook, buys lots of candy, Dad and Doug are great at the grill too! Thanks for all the popcorn and apples Mom!
-Papa Richard came to visit and brought yummy meat and pie!
-Lots of ichatting with Brian
-shopping at H&M and Yogurtland for a 2nd time
-finally deciding that Settlers of Catan isnt that bad after all
-Every time Tara and Scott came over I was feeding Ruby! haha
-Taking Ruby and Caden to the Park
-Sonic!!! and Rubios!!! and In and Out!!!
-Taking pictures of Ruby and Levi~ they are going to make a great couple one day :)
-seeing friends and hanging out
-getting my hair did
-going to Grandma's and Grandpa's for dinners
-Having lots and lots of help with Ruby!

It was a great time and I'm sure glad I went! Its always nice to go home to see such great people!

The flight home was a Red Eye and Ruby did awesome again! I also brought my brother Doug back out with me... his adventures in Hawaii post will follow shortly!

Ruby's Blessing

On Sunday, the 25th of March, we blessed baby Ruby. It was an awesome experience and really neat. Before we went we were able to snag our neighbors (thanks steve and jenny) to take some pics of us. These are them.

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty nervous. I think my voice was a bit wobbly at first. But it was a great blessing and little Ruby did great. She had just woken up, so I thought she was going to start crying or something, but she laid there and stretched and moved around, but never cried.

After the blessing and church was completed, we had some friends over for a nice little BBQ. I cooked up some hamburgers and hotdogs and we ate and hung out on the lawn in front of our apartment. It was super fun. Pictures are better than words, so here are some pictures.

Its good to have good friends come by and celebrate special moments. And it is just good to have good friends.

One Month Old!

Ahhh! My little baby is growing so fast! I am really blown away at how fast this month as gone. It seems as if it was only yesterday I laid my eyes on Ruby for the first time. She is just getting cuter and cuter. She had her 1 month check up and she is now 8.6 lbs and 21 1/4 inches. So that means since birth she has gained over a pound and grown an inch! She is getting stronger to. She can lift her head and hold it for a few seconds, she has an incredibly strong kick, she constantly rolls onto her side and she goos and gaas (so cute!). She is also one smiley little girl until the camera comes out... as soon as we try to capture a smile she stops and just stares at the camera.

The last weekend we took Ruby to the beach and to Ted's bakery for the very first time and she loved it! I cant wait for her to get a little bit older so we can enjoy the beach a little bit more together! (she will be swimming by 6 months) She loves to be awake and apart of whatever we are doing. Seriously, she doesn't sleep... luckily she is pretty calm while she is awake!!! She loves going of walks and just being outside which I am VERY grateful for, I just need to step outside at least once a day to keep my sanity!

This is Pike writing and truthfully, I am not up to writing the longest post because i have written around 30 pages of stuff for school lately, and actually have some more pages that I have to write tonight. So pictures of our little bundle of happiness will do.

This is Ruby after a bath. She loves taking baths and doesn't fuss at all during them. Our friend Angie made this sweet hooded zebra towel that she keeps warm and dries up in after each bath.

I have no words to describe how cool she already is. The pictures kind of say it all.

If you don't like stories about babies number TWO stories, don't read the words below.
I said I wasn't going to write a lot but a funny thing happened the other day. It was actually on conference Sunday. Lindsey and I and my buddy Tim were sitting around watching conference and Ruby made a pee pee. Lindsey was holding her and was just going to change her in her lap. Why not right? Pee diapers are just a quick swap. Well, Lindsey took off the diaper and was struggling wrapping it up and Ruby let a number TWO rip. (insert wet fart sound here) I half gagged and walked away just to make sure I wasn't going to add to the mess. Luckily for Lindsey (I guess as lucky as you can be holding a baby that just poo pooed) it all stayed on the blanket. So I go and get some wipes and lindsey starts cleaning up Ruby and while cleaning, Vwoooomp, Ruby lets another number two go. ACK. Lindsey tries to hurry and get her clean and I hold Ruby's legs up so that Lindsey can get her clean. Remember, during all this Lindsey has a blanket on her lap that is covered in doo doo. So while I am holding little Ruby's legs up and Lindsey is cleaning, guess what? Yup. One more time. Ruby lets out the last of what seemed like an endless run of number 2. Lindsey then gets her clean, and we wrap up the blanket and toss it. It was just one of the cheap swaddling blankets and I didn't feel like washing it, (how do people do cloth diapers??)
Now, if you ask Lindsey or Tim they will tell you I ran off and was gagging and acting all crazy. Not true. I handled it fine. Not perfect, but good enough. Lindsey on the other hand. What a mom. She sat there with a number two filled blanket on her lap and some on her hands and arms. Thanks Linds. I would have just stuck her in the shower or something???? I don't know what I would have done.

Ruby somehow always manages to wriggle her arm out of her swaddle no matter how tight it is. It's cute that she has to have her hand by her face while she sleeps, and yes she sleeps with her mouth open!

Ruby is a good little fighter, I swear she knows what she is doing with her hands and feet. When I go to put a binkie in her mouth and she doesnt want it, she throws her fits up and knocks my hand away. When I wrap her in her blanket she grrrs at me or if her hands are stuck she growls. It's pretty funny. Maybe one day I might be able to video it, you'd laugh too if you heard it. This morning I was able to capture some fighting moves, I swear she did this all the time in my belly.

I cannot believe I have been a mommy for a week already!(time sure does fly when you are having fun!) This week has really been awesome, yes, sleepless nights and days but great otherwise. Ruby is just so precious I cant stop myself from staring at her constantly. She is really fun and I think the most beautiful baby in the world!! This week has been easy so far with her, we are learning little by little and it seems almost normal to have her here. I already cannot imagine my life without her. I am truly blessed, Ruby is so far a very easy going little girl. She is calm and only cries when she has a messy diaper or is hungry.

Brian has been an incredible daddy too. He learned as much as he could at the hospital and was more then ready to get home and try it out on our own! It's so fun to watch him with his little princess. He loves cuddling with her and singing to her. Im sure she loves every minute she can get with her daddy. He helps me out lots, like in the middle of the night when I am holding Ruby and she all of a sudden poops, he will wake up and help to get me a new diaper and wipes. Today he learned that Ruby will pee with or without a diaper on! WE both love when daddy comes home and look forward to it everyday!

From the moment I laid my eyes on my brand new baby girl it was love at first sight. The minute they laid her on me I looked at her and I was overwhelmed with love. It was the most amazing experience, that the instant I laid my eyes on her I forgot about all the pain and I just wanted her to be with me forever. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for blessing us with Ruby. We have loved being parents and know that we are very blessed to be so lucky to have her in our lives.

On Saturday the Wynes came to visit us at the hospital. It was nice to have some visitors after having been in that room for so long. Angie brought her camera with her and took some RADICAL photos. She is good at taking photos. Thanks so much Angie, we love the pics. Hope you all enjoy them too.
P.S. yes, it is starting and will continue. This blog has now been taken over by our baby girl RUBY. Truthfully, its because she is the most exciting stuff happening in our life!

WOW! Where to start. First off, Ruby is here and healthy. Lindsey is here and healthy. What a wonderful blessing.
And since you most likely all just want to see a bunch of pictures, here are a bunch of pictures. If you want to read about the day, the story follows the pictures.

So, now a little about our day.

We woke up at 4:00am and got on the road nice and early. When we got here it was still dark and we came in and entered our suite. They got started pretty much right away and did all the paperwork and questions. They started hooking Lindsey up to different things and getting vitals, etc. After all of that, they got her started on the Petocin. We just hung around had nurses coming in and out checking up on here. They kept telling us her readings were good. The contractions were starting and about 2 mins apart, but nothing that was really making Lindsey hurt. The peaks on this picture are where the contractions were doing there thing. The valleys are where it was time to relax.

So after the contractions started to get a little more painful for her, Lindsey said she wanted the epidural. The nurses called up the guy and he had to get some stuff together but was on his way. Well, he took a bit longer than hoped for and Lindsey's contractions got pretty painful for her. The nurses would coax her through each one and then she would rest for a bit until the next. The epidural guy was trying to ask her questions before starting the drip and I could tell Lindsey just wanted the pain to go away. Seems like the guy took his time prepping and all because by the time he got the thing going Lindsey was dilated to a 10 and ready to deliver pretty much. The nurse checked and said "WOW. The head is about to come out, so if you feel you need to push, then push." Lindsey would push and fight through the contractions while saying, "Get me more epidural, THIS HURTS!" Well, Ruby didn't care if mom's epidural was going to kick in or not, she was coming. Lindsey kept breathing through contractions and Ruby kept wanting to come so they told her to start pushing. Well, pushing leads to birthing, and after a bit of it Ruby made her grand entrance.

I thought Arnold Schwartzenager's movies were intense, but not compared to the birthing of a baby. It was intense, crazy, happy, gnarly, everything put in one. It was AMAZING.

Lindsey was the biggest trooper ever. Truthfully, I didn't think she was going to do so amazing. No mean words, no super stressed yelling or anything. She stayed quite calm and did amazing. She seriously did so good. What an amazing, strong woman I married. She is pretty rad.

I owe my friend Angie a HUGE shout out for taking some belly shots for me. She did them just on Wednesday and we were hoping that all the sitting and squatting would put me into labor, guess it didn't work, but I got some cool shots anyways!

Now it's time to say goodbye to this belly of mine. I would have to say I am probably going to miss it. I am going to miss having something to rest my cereal bowl on each morning, miss the excuse it doesn't fit because there is a baby inside me, miss the excuse to wear only sweats all day, miss people looking at me thinking that my belly is cute as opposed to maybe she's pregnant but don't dare to even ask belly, miss it getting in the way of hugs and holding babies?? ok not really that one, but I will miss some of the aspects of having a belly.

What I am most looking forward to other then Ruby, is to lay flat on my stomach! I seriously can't wait. I am tired of trying to sleep on my side and digging wholes in the sand to support me and my belly. It's going to be awesome.

March 12th, 2010... Its starting

We woke up this morning at 4:00am and got ready to head to Kailua to check into the hospital. Its about an hour away. We got here and all set up and now it is just a waiting game. So we will keep you updated!!
This is the entry way and our room. They have a mini fridge. "i can put some be.... Root beer in there, some candy bars." "anything i want to keep cold"

Happenings...

What have we been up to? Good question. Not much. We go to the beach when we can, I read and Brian surfs. Most importantly, we have been taking time to prepare for little Ruby to come by getting all the little things and putting together the car seat and stroller. We are just as ready as I think we can be for her... I'm sure once she gets here we will find more that we need, but for now we are A OK! Just so you all are aware, Ruby can be making her debut any day now. Her due date is March 13th but last week I was dilated to a 2.5 and my doctor said that I should expect her to come a week to two weeks early. Pretty exciting. She is just as anxious as us.

Next, I dont know if any of you heard but there was a Tsunami warning for the state of HI. I am so very grateful that nothing serious happened. It was a very stressful situation for me and if it wasn't for the power of the priesthood and the faith that I along with Brian and our families and friends I dont know that I would have been able to find comfort. We were woken up at 3:30 Saturday morning by banging on our door. We both jolted out of bed and Brian left to fulfill his responsibility as an RA for our apartment complex to wake others and let them know what was going on. After about an hour since his leaving I started to freak out a little... I knew that I could possibly have the baby any day and the thought of not be able to go to the hospital really scared me. So, I took a shower hoping to calm myself down. Once I got out of the shower the fear inside me grew stronger and luckily my parents were aware of the warning and were calling to check on us. I talked with them for awhile and then began to cry. After speaking with them I called Brian and asked him to come home so we could talk and plan what it was we should do. He remained so calm and tried to put my mind at ease telling me everything would be fine. He called the hospital and got direction from them for what we should do. Of course they advised us to not go down there. He then gave me a blessing and it was amazing the immediate comfort and peace I had. I know that our Heavenly Father was watching over us that day and I feel truly blessed to have married a worthy man who can call upon God and ask for his blessings. I am grateful for him and his reassuring words, calmness and love.
We are lucky to live where we do, we are just far enough from the ocean that we didnt have to evacuate our home. They just advised those who live on the bottom floors to move up to the 2nd floor. We were lucky enough to have the company of the Wynes family join us in our home. As we were anticipating what was going to happen we were able to enjoy each others company and keep our minds at ease. Oh and Brian went to Foodland once it opened to gather water, ice and snacks to last us in case something was to happen. He basically had to fight for water... pretty intense!
Thanks you all for your thoughts and prayers that day. It meant a lot to us! We love you.

I will be coming home sometime this evening! whoo whoo.

They are placing me on bed rest for the next 2 weeks :(... they want me to be at 36 weeks and if Ruby decides she is still not ready they will determine whether I will be back to work or not. Her head has dropped and I am dilating so as anxious as she seems to be I am hoping she can hold on for another 2 weeks or even month :). I feel like I have so much more to do before she gets here!
All in all it has been an awesome adventure for us staying in the 4 Seasons...or something like that. But really it has been great for me, they have been feeding me (even hot cocoa at 3 am!-no not a pregnancy craving, just a better option then tea), brought me towels and changed my sheets. Poor Brian on the other hand, he just gets to watch me eat my food and sleeping on a little coffin, or so he likes to call it. He has been a trooper through this, even when I tell him he can go and come back, he insists on staying and keeping me company. (and I am secretly grateful for it) I love him so much!

Ruby wants to hang out !!

SOOOOO, Today Lindsey had some concerns with being prego and called up the doctor. They told her to come in and see her at 11:00am for a little check-up. Well, to keep a long story short, after lots of checking-up they took her to the birthing center and hooked her up to a machine and gave her some shots and some pills.

What happened was Ruby was preparing to come out and party a little earlier than she should. Lindsey has had some contractions that are a bit early (she isn't due until March 13th). So they gave her some pills to help calm the contractions down and a shot that will help develop Ruby's lungs just in case she comes earlier than planned.

We are hanging out over night and will be here awhile tomorrow, but if anything we are getting a quick taste of the hospital feel. We will be nice and ready and familiar with the area when we come back for the real deal.

But everything seems to be good and Ruby is healthy. As excited as we are to see her, I guess we should wait at least a couple more weeks so little Ruby will be healthy.

I have lots to post about but for now I just want to show off the crib bedding that my mom made over Christmas break. My mom is an amazing seamtress, I dont know why she doesnt do it more often. It was so fun picking out the material with her and watching her work so hard on it! Thanks mom! I love you! :)
I love the bedding so much that as soon as we got back to Hawaii I insisted on setting up the crib so I could put it all together. It looks great and it puts a smile on my face every morning when I wake up!

Tis The Season

First off, we had a GRREEAAATTT Thanksgiving. We celebrating with some friends and had lots of yummy food. Brian was able to go surfing in the morning, instead of playing football this year. We didnt take any pictures :( but the day was fantastic.

It has been Christmas in our house for about 3 weeks now. I didnt feel it was appropriate to post pictures until Thanksgiving was over so now that it is finally December I am going to show off my wall! I cant believe how fast this year has gone by.

Before we get into the Christmas pictures, I need to tell you what my husband has been up to this past month, besides surfing. Have you ever heard of Movember? No? Well, it is a silly tradition where men or boys who want to look like men decide they are going to grow out mustaches for the entire month. They say its to promote mens health, like the month of October is dedicated to women's health. So, Brian, who can grow a mustache in just 2 days, had a mustache for the WHLOE month. It was just great! During the first week or so we were walking out of Foodland and I came across a quarter machine that had facial hair stick ons. I took out a quarter and politely asked the machine to give me a mustache, and guess what??? I GOT IT! The plan was to take a picture with Brian with his hairy upper lip along with mine. After about 2 weeks into having his mustache, Brian grew tired of having it and told me he wanted to shave it off so we needed to take a picture soon. Hmm I thought to myself, he hates having a mustache now? Really? Now he is suffering with it and wants it off his pretty little face and wont shave it until I am willing to take a picture with him? This was just too good to be true! I came up with every excuse in the book why I couldnt take a picture and for 2 weeks I held out. It was funny how frustrated he would get and how badly he wanted to shave it. I kind of feel bad, but at the same time, I dont. I wanted to make sure he kept up his end of the deal by growing a mustache for the entire month, and thanks to me, he did!

The surf

This last Saturday was the final day of Brian's surf competition.

Ok so that wasnt Brian nor was it even close to the size of the crowd that showed up on Saturday to watch him and the other guys in their surf competition. That was all taken this last Sunday and Monday when Brian and I went to watch one of the many big surf competitions here on the north shore. It is amazing/fun to see the professionals surf live and up close. They have some serious surfing skills. I think Brian is just as good as them...he just doesnt have the time to travel with them on all their surf adventures, plus Im sure he would rather just be at home with me. ;)

Brian with his all time surf idol, Sunny Garcia... not really his idol or even close to being his favorite surfer. It is just funny that Brian asked for a picture with him because Sunny is probably the most outrageous surfer. By outrageous I mean scary crazy. But he was pretty cool about taking a picture with Brian, he even put his arm around him. I think they are close to being BFFs now.

Back to Brian's surf competition. He surfed and did pretty well but sadly he lost in his heat by .5 of a point so he didnt advance. I had lots of fun going down to the beach and watching him and his friends surf.

This is the path that you have to walk down to get to the surf spot where they held the competition. I just think its really pretty so I wanted a picture of it. And now you get to enjoy it too. (you're welcome)

Brian had a blast surfing in his little surf competition. He loved being out in the water surfing with his friends and competing. He is looking forward to another competition in the near future.

As for me, when I am not working I try to find little projects to keep me busy. I decided about 2 weeks ago that I was going to decorate for Christmas so I set out to do just that... pictures to come shortly.

Just a little update of what we have been up to:

Well there's really not much but Brian was in his first surf competition yesterday! He did awesome and came second in his heat which means he moves on and will surf again next Saturday!! He was really giddy yesterday afterwards, it was really cute. I enjoyed watching him and I tried to get video of him but there were too many heads in the way so I will try next week. He loves surfing and just the thought that people were gathered on the beach watching him and the other surfers made his whole day, maybe even month! Also, it has finally started to cool down this week...FINALLY...I cant tell you how happy this makes me. To celebrate the cooler weather I made soup today for dinner and it was delicious. Well, actually Nordstrom cafe made it I just heated it up :) they have the best tomato basil soup! MmmmMmmm

My mom and dad were able to come out and stay with Brian and I for a week! It was a blast and I am so glad that they came to visit! I may have cried when they left...
I cant explain how great it was having them here and I better keep this short before I start to cry again, (yes, my eyes are watering already) but we did enjoy their company very much and we were sad that it went by so quickly. Thanks for coming mom and dad, I love you and cant wait to see you in December!!!

Lindsey and I went to the doctor today for her first appointment. Yes, we finally made it in. You would think it would have happened a long time ago, being that we have known she is pregnant for a month now, but for whatever reasons, (mostly the doctor didn't have an opening until today) we hadn't. Well, we got there and they do all the check-up stuff and then it was time for the ULTRASOUND. Technology blows my mind. The fact that Lindsey has a little baby in her, blows my mind. I am going to be a dad, blows my mind. I just turned 26, blows my mind. Pretty much lately, a lot of stuff has been that crazy blowing mind kind of stuff. The stuff that makes you sit back and think about life and where you and your spouse are going and how you are going to get there and how fortunate you are to be where you are and with all the things we have been blessed with. Heavy stuff. But really neat stuff. Mind blowing stuff. Back to the appointment. Well, the ULTRASOUND ( i put that word in bold cause i think it is a cool word), was INSANE !! BOOM, right away you could see a little baby. It really blew my mind how clear of a picture it was. Everyone, and I mean pretty much everyone, is pregnant in married housing here in Hawaii, and I have seen a lot of ULTRASOUNDS of their babies lately and I thought they looked weird and hard to see. But, (maybe just because it is our baby and I am biased) this ULTRASOUND came out soooo clear and we could see the baby and its little hands and feet and fingers and toes. it was INSANE. So after looking at the baby for a bit, the doctor measured it and Lindsey is 12 weeks along !!!! That is exciting for us because we weren't sure how far along she would be and the further the better. So the tentative date of birth is March 13th, 2010. Tentative being the key word. Doc said we will know more accurately the next visit. I scanned this picture in.

Happy Birthday Brian!

It was Brian's BIG 26th on Monday and he is soo excited about getting older! He spent his big day mostly at school :(. We had planned earlier last week that we would do something fun for his birthday on Sat., he wanted to spend the day at the beach and then have dinner at one of the famous shrimp trucks (something he has wanted since moving here). Well, Saturday came and the weather wasnt the best for a day on the beach so we drove to Kaneohe to see a movie and have dinner. We splurged and got Arby's for dinner and then went and saw Julie and Julia. (so you know, it wasnt me making him go see a chick flick for his birthday, he wanted to see it just as badly as me!) After the movie was over we walked around the mall for a little bit and then sat on a bench in the middle of the mall and people watched. When we grew tired of that we left and went and got some frozen yogurt at Orangetree. The reason why we love Orangetree is you serve yourself, put as much or as many toppings on as you wish and the best part is they give you sample cups to taste as much as you want! They have about 16 flavors and by the time we get done tasting them, we are full! When we sit down to actually eat what we bought, I have a few bites and then make Brian finish it off! Then he fills sick and I'm usually doing ok! I am so nice... :)
On Sunday, I asked him what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he said sweet and sour chicken. So we made sweet and sour chicken with rice for dinner! It was delicious and way better than any chinese take out!

I wanted to do something special and a little bit of a surprise for his birthday. I had made a birthday sign after work on Friday out of butcher and construction paper. I only had a few minutes to work on it before he would be getting home so I had to hurry, and I didnt know if it was me racing to get it done or the forgetfulness from the pregnancy (yes, I'm using that as my excuse) but I forgot the H in birthday! The sad thing is, I didnt even realize it until Brian pointed it out! Anyways, so I made him the sign without him knowing and on Monday morning I woke up early and told him I was going to the gym. What I really did was wake up to hang up the masterpiece I made him and wrapped his one present. Then I went to McDonalds to get him sausage biscuits and hash-browns for his birthday breakfast! When I got home I had to beg him to wake up... finally after me pestering him for what seemed forever he got out of bed and walked out to the front room and saw his big surprise! He was excited and ate his breakfast and opened his present. He got a new pair of sandals. Then he went off to school and didnt return until about 4:30 that afternoon. When he got home I surprised him with a ice cream cake from Coldstone. We didnt have candles so he blew out a match, then we ate cake and he rested until he had to go back to school from 8-10pm.
All in all it was a great day. Even with him being at school so much throughout the day, we were able to really celebrate and enjoy his birthday while he was home.

If you were here or you were us I promise your freak would be freaked!
First things first:

One day I decided it was about time I learned how to surf. After a month of just thinking about it, Pike and I decided last week that I would learn. So after work we got into the car and headed for the beach. As we were approaching the beach, the oncoming traffic was two life guard trucks with their lights and sirens going off and towing jet skis, an ambulance and two cop cars! I really didnt know what to think of the situation...trust me, many things were going through my head but I didnt want to freak myself out over nothing. While we were in the water less then a mile away, we look up to see a flight for life helicopter with the rescue basket hanging down from it and heading straight for the hospital. We both looked at each other and didnt really say much and tried to make light of the situation; but what we really were thinking was SHARK ATTACK! Well, sadly we were wrong (which I am kind of happy about because I am scared to death of sharks) but it was a suicide. Some lady drove her car off the point, a cliff in Laie. (sorry I dont want anyone to feel depressed after reading this)
Needless to say that was an interesting first day of surfing, or attempting. I was feeling ambitious the next day and was sure I was going to do better, well I didnt really get my chance to prove myself. While making our way out into the water and only a surfboard between Brian and I, Biran got stung by a jelly fish! He looked at me in silence for about 30 seconds and then shouted "Hurry, just go! Go in!" Shocked and confused I stared at him and then he said I just got stung... I was half way in by the time he said ...st got.. not because I listened to his first warning but because quite a few people within a couple weeks have been getting stung and I was scared it was going to happen to me. So when he started saying what happened I dont think anyone has ever paddled faster then me! Once we got out of the water, he was in a lot of pain and I felt really bad but yet really relieved that it only got him! (yes, that may sound rude but its the ugly truth, at least I'm honest!) No surfing was performed that day or yet but I still have sometime to learn and I will. It was just an exciting first 2 days that I thought I would share with you all so you know that we are actually alive.

Its just a little sting...not that big of a deal! right?
(so you know these stings burn and itch and it doesnt feel good to scratch them)

Now why should your freak have been freaked after that first story?...
1. Possible shark attack only a single mile away from where we were swimming.
2. Sharks in the water...period!
3. Jellyfish!
4. Lots of people we know getting stung at an alarming rate.
5. Brian's sting. Its gross.
6. So I dont sound like a baby...its a big scary ocean out there! (haha I'm really not that scared. I get in and swim around a lot!)

Now if your freak wasnt really freaked then this will surely freak it!

In Hawaii, as you all know or have heard, there are rather creepy creatures and insects lurking around. I have seen my fair share of larger than my foot cockroaches, frogs, geckos, spiders, centipedes and other such icky creepy things. Some of these creatures have made their way into our home but with a "calming scream" for help, Brian takes care of the problem! (For the record, he is just as freaked as I am!) Anyways, you all get the point, we have lots of surprises and some I just let live in here but there are some that have to go! Well, on Sunday, we had a very unwelcoming stranger! da da dummmm.

As I was walking towards our bedroom from the front room, for whatever reason, I happened to look up on top of our cupboards in the kitchen. I glanced up and continued walking when I then looked back up to be sure what I thought I saw was just a figment of my imagination. Once I realized that there was surely something there I started to panic and sweat and lets just say I was really nervous and wasnt sure where to go! I asked Brian to look and try to figure out what this creature was and get it out somehow!

He started to panic because we had never seen anything like it! I told him to call our friend Brett,(he catches chameleons all the time) and have him come catch it! Brett, couldnt come for a bit so we went and got our neighbors to see if they knew what this creature was and if they were brave enough to grab it. They were just as nervous as we were. We all just stood there staring at this thing and finally our friend Shawn came in and as nervous as he was he grabbed the chair and stood up right in front of it and this thing lurched out at him and was running around and chasing us! Ok, that last part was a lie, as Shawn stood up to face this creature he started to laugh and say are you guys kidding me, and picks it up and holds out a piece of surf wax!
We were all embarrassed that we allowed ourselves to be afraid of a piece of wax, but a disclaimer to our stupidity and fear...I would like to quote Brian. In his words..."It moved! That thing moved.. I saw it move!"
I was relieved that there wasnt a mysterious creature in our apartment or that such a creature really doesnt exist! I kept asking Brian how something so big could have gotten in here unnoticed! So our freak was definitely freaked and I hope I got your freak even just a little bit. We like to keep things exciting around here... so who wants to come visit???

Life's a Beach

A catch up of our lives...since of sure all of you are sick of looking at Brian's fat lip!

A few weeks ago my good friend Paige and her Husband Glen came to Hawaii to celebrate their one year and we were lucky enough to spend lots of time with them. It was lots of fun hanging out with them at their hotel and taking them around to see parts of Hawaii.

Basically we haven't really done anything more than hang out at the beach when we can. Brian will be finishing up his second semester here in Hawaii this coming Wednesday and will start working the following Monday as an RA in our apartment complex! A job that we couldn't be more excited about! He will work 15 hrs/week and his pay is that we no longer have to pay rent!!! A major plus here in Hawaii since it is very expensive!

On Monday, Brian had to have a mucus gland removed from the inside of his mouth. He had it for a couple months and would pop it constantly only to have it come back. After going to the doctor and finding out that he could either get it cut out or continue with the discomfort and popping it...he went with the surgery!

It looks a lot better now, thank goodness!

Good news: WE STILL LOVE EACH OTHER!
I can hardly believe that we have been married for a year now! We sure are looking for the whole "downhill" part! ;) Well, this year has been one of the hardest but most rewarding and incredible experiences yet. I'm no expert on the whole married thing but I know that we have learned and grown very much as a couple. There is a lot I can say and I could possibly make you cry with all the mushy and lovey dovey stuff, but to save you from a day of puffy eyes I will keep it simple. No matter how hard marriage or life can be, no matter what is going on in your life and how bad and down you may feel, there is nothing greater than love. Love is not something that just happens to you, it is something that you must practice and practice on giving and receiving.
I love Brian and I am grateful for him and all his patience with me.

We didnt do anything to crazy for our one year, but we had a good time! Pike got me flowers, we saw a movie... and on Sunday we made dinner and our wedding cake,(scotchoroos), since we really couldnt save the top of our cake! All in all it was a great day!

It doesn't matter where you go in life, what you do ..... it's who you have beside you.

SO today is Sunday. Yes. Sunday.
Just so you know Pike and I are lying on our bed watching Extreme Home Makeover, which I find myself getting more and more jealous by the episode... I want to go on a vacation like the families but mostly I want one of THE HOMES they build. Not so much the kid rooms(I find them to be a little over the top... The kids grow up eventually and may not want that adorable princess room or science lab!) I just love the beautiful home from the exterior to the interior. They always seem to have that amazing yard that you can picture your children playing all day outside, having friends and family over for BBQs or just relaxing outside with a good book on a Sunday. The large openness of the front rooms and Kitchens is what I picture as an "Ideal" home. These large open rooms allow lots of light in and give a sense of peace and serenity. (Maybe I marvel these homes for the reason that for the last 5 years of my life I have been living in rather small spaces!) I have also been sick this weekend and today has been the worst...so I came home from church and tried to sleep it off, of course I couldnt sleep so I tuned into HGTV, only to make myself want a home even more! Today, they were shopping for homes on the east coast, and boy am I glad not to be living there. The homes were old and not the big open spaces that I would want. Then I started thinking to myself, I want to decorate and have nice things... but I can wait, after all, I am living in paradise!
Anyways, along with my lame day of not feeling well...I got on the internet to do my dailies, which entails of checking my blog, blogstalking, check emails, news, whiskeymilitia, facebook, cooking recipe sights,slickdeals, urban, swell, taget(who just opened 2 stores on the island!!), practically anything i can think of looking at and make wish list of all the things I want... and of course the infamous craiglist! Anyone who knows me knows that I can find great websites that offer great deals on fake designer what nots, and today I stumbled upon this great sight...http://www.dezignerfashions.com/index.html... If I had some extra cash I would get myself into trouble here, well maybe not trouble, but I definitely would find a few pretty, new and exciting wants that I would buy in a heartbeat. SO if any of you have a few bucks to spare and dont want to pay the high fashion prices for these nock-offs eat your hearts out! AND just know as you click on the add to your cart button and proceed with your information, I envy you and your purchase! But to get back at you I say this... "I live in Hawaii, have a great tan, and can go to the beach and play in the warm sunshine all day if i wanted!" :)

After sitting for a long while today, I ask myself WHY? Why do you continuously torture yourself day after day. I am addicted to wanting! As I search through websites wishing I had, wishing I could, wishing, wishing, wishing!!! WHY WHY WHY! I am going to have an intervention on myself starting today... I am going to stop wishing and dreaming about lifes what ifs, I am going to start loving what I have! After all I have a lot more then i need! I have health, beauty, skills and talents, an amazing loving husband, along with an awesome loving close family and friends, have a college degree, live in Hawaii(a dream vacation destination), transportation, temple marriage, the gospel, and the list goes on and on. I couldn't be in a happier position, many people would be lucky to have half of what I do!

So to end this endless rampage of babbling I want to thank everyone who has been in my life and made it better! You all deserve a great big hug and kiss from me, you are angels and have made a difference in my life! Thank you for your encouragement, love, compassion, positivity, laughs, comfort, and memories! I love you all!

SURPRISE!!!

My dear friend Courtney and her husband were planning a trip to Hawaii and had told me to plan on them arriving March 23rd. I was pretty excited for their upcoming visit and could hardly wait til the end of the month.
Well, what I didn't know was that she lied to me... after she told me she was coming the 23rd, she called Pike and told him that she was coming on the 12th and wanted to surprise me. I'm assuming that right after he spoke to Courtney he came up to me and said, i have a surprise for you, but you cant have it right now.(WHAT?) I asked when I might be able to have my big surprise and he told me "I dont know, it could be tomorrow, a couple days, a week..." (WHAT? I was pretty confused.) Then he made me promise that when he said that we have to go somewhere that I would just go, no questions asked. Oh and did I mention that I would have to wake up early for this surprise, I had a billion things running through my mind of what this surprise could be. I obviously couldn't figure it out...when Pike woke me up that early Thursday morning, blindfolded me put me in the car and started driving, I couldn't be happier when I was greeted with a kiss on my nose and opened my eyes and saw COURTNEY! :)

They stayed with us for 5 days and it was a blast!

Presidents Day:
We went to Honolulu to spend the day at the beach and to visit the aquarium with our friends Matty and Lindsay.

The Aquarium...the smallest aquarium in the world! Which is odd...we are in the middle of the biggest ocean in the world, and we have the smallest aquarium???

Maunawili Falls: Or should I say Maunawili's Revenge???

On Saturday Pike and I joined a rather large group of friends to go on a hike. The hike was Maunawili Falls, this hike is known to be easy, but I would have to beg to differ. Mind you, we did go on this hike after it had poured rain the whole day before.

We did bring both our camera and video camera because we were determined to have amazing pictures to post and brag about our adventures. Sadly, we had forgotten to put the memory card back into the camera after downloading pictures from the previous post, and the video camera, well, we just need to figure out our relationship with it... it works but just not when we need it to work! No worries... thank goodness for google and other people who have taken pictures. I have downloaded the hike for you all to see!

Here is the begging, nothing to hard...

The river, that we crossed a few times during the hike...
This is however, where the hike started to take a nasty turn. After the first cross over the river the trail was pure mud and sticks! We were wearing flip flops, which didnt quite work with the mud. So, we took off our shoes and began to do the hike barefoot. Now I dont want to sound like a complainer, I did enjoy the hike, but I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY HATE TO BE BAREFOOT!! K, so we are doing this barefoot and not thinking of what is going on, apparently there were millions of mosquitoes lurking in the mud and loving every minute of our bare skin.

This is where the hike turns beautiful! Just standing there and taking in all of the views was probably my favorite part!

The End! The waterfall, yes it is pretty, but in our opinion not quite worth it... It was fun to be there though. Pike and some of his friends jumped from the highest cliff into the freezing cold water. It was funny to watch everyone jump, most of whom smacked the water so hard, it had to of hurt them really bad, but since there were so many of us by standers, they covered up the pain and forced smiles onto their faces! and yes, Pike was one of them!!! haha

Now why do I refer to the hike as revenge you might ask...
The next day, Pike could barely walk, his legs got quite the work out, both of our feet hurt, and bug bites everywhere! I should have taken pictures, but most of mine swelled up to the size of golf balls. And that's no exaggeration! People at church were mystified, they had never seen anything like it! We will also be digging out the mud from out toenails for who knows how long!!! All and all, I'm glad we did it!

Needless to say, for those of you who may come visit us in the future and you want to do this hike, I hope you have fun! We will show you the way to get there, but we will not be doing it again. :)

oh I almost forgot, the best part of the day was when we got into the car and our friends Matty and Lindsay invited us to go into Kailua to get Acai bowls! I love Kailua and would be happy to take you visitors there!!!
